Where to Stay Near Cedars-Sinai: A Private-Residence Guide for Treatment, Recovery and the Family Who Comes With You

By Villoura Editorial September 20, 2026 12 min read

The most practical place to stay near Cedars-Sinai is a private furnished residence in Beverly Grove, West Hollywood or the flats just east of Beverly Hills, five to ten minutes from the 8700 Beverly Boulevard campus, booked for thirty nights or more. For stays shorter than that, the hotel corridor along Beverly and La Cienega remains the compliant choice, because Beverly Hills now prohibits residential rentals of under a year and Los Angeles restricts unhosted short stays. What follows is the guide the hospital’s own hotel list does not give you: which streets, which kind of house, how long, and what the rules actually permit.

Why Cedars-Sinai draws patients from everywhere

In the 2026–27 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings, published in August 2026, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was named to the national Honor Roll for the eleventh consecutive year and tied for first in both California and Los Angeles, with ten specialties ranked nationally. Cardiology, heart and vascular surgery placed fourth in the country; gastroenterology and GI surgery third; orthopedics fifth; pulmonology and lung surgery ninth. Those are the programs that bring people to Los Angeles from other states and other continents, often for a sequence of consultations, a procedure and a recovery that cannot be scheduled to the day.

The hospital is built for that traffic. Its International Patient Services team coordinates visa documentation and letters, interpreters, appointment scheduling, transportation and lodging for patients arriving from abroad, and the Samuel Oschin Cancer Center treats more than sixty types of cancer with an outpatient infusion center that runs from seven in the morning until half past eleven at night on weekdays. Cedars-Sinai also publishes a hotel list for visiting patients, forty-five properties sorted by price from the Sofitel a tenth of a mile away to the Peninsula and L’Ermitage in Beverly Hills, and it closes with a short section headed “Long-Term and Short-Term Housing” that lists furnished-apartment providers rather than hotels. That last section is the quiet acknowledgement at the centre of this guide: for a stay of several weeks, a hotel room stops being the right answer.

The geography: a hospital on the seam of three cities

Cedars-Sinai sits in Beverly Grove, a district of the City of Los Angeles, on the block bounded by Beverly Boulevard, Third Street, San Vicente Boulevard and George Burns Road. West Hollywood begins one block north at Beverly Boulevard; Beverly Hills begins a few blocks west at Doheny Drive. That seam matters more than it looks, because each of the three cities regulates furnished rentals differently, and a residence two streets away from another can sit under an entirely different rulebook.

West Hollywood begins one block north of the hospital; a Villoura residence above the Strip.

Within a five-minute drive are the Beverly Grove flats, the streets of West Hollywood West and the Norma Triangle, and the Beverly Hills flats south of Santa Monica Boulevard. Within ten minutes on a weekday morning are Hancock Park and Windsor Square to the east and Century City to the west. Bel Air, Holmby Hills and Brentwood are fifteen to twenty-five minutes depending on the hour, and Metro’s D Line, whose first extension opened in May 2026, now stops at Wilshire and La Cienega roughly a mile south of the campus, with Rodeo, Century City and Westwood stations forecast for 2027. Beverly Hills is adjacent; the address on the paperwork is Los Angeles.

The rules nobody explains to a patient’s family

Three rulebooks apply within a mile of the hospital, and the family booking from Riyadh, São Paulo or Chicago usually learns about them only when a listing disappears.

Beverly Hills: a one-year minimum

On 5 August 2025 the Beverly Hills City Council adopted an ordinance prohibiting rentals of less than one year in the city’s single-family and multifamily residential zones. It replaced the 2014 rules that had allowed single-family homes to be rented for periods under six months up to twice a year, and apartments for thirty days or more. On 31 August 2026 a group of about two dozen owners, hosts and property managers calling themselves the Beverly Hills Vacation Rental Alliance filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, arguing the ordinance is an unconstitutional taking and was modified without being returned to the Planning Commission. The city’s attorney, Laurence Wiener, has said the council “desires to protect the residential quality of life” and that California case law supports its position. Until a court says otherwise, the practical rule for a medical stay is simple: a furnished house in Beverly Hills proper is not available for a month or a season, whatever a listing platform implies.

Los Angeles: thirty nights is the line

The City of Los Angeles, which includes Beverly Grove, Hancock Park, Bel Air, Holmby Hills and Brentwood, regulates rentals of fewer than thirty consecutive nights under its Home-Sharing Ordinance. Those short stays are permitted only in a host’s registered primary residence, and are capped at 120 nights a year unless the host holds an extended permit. Stays of thirty nights or longer fall outside the ordinance altogether, which is why the furnished-residence market around Cedars-Sinai is built on the thirty-night booking. A three-night pre-operative visit belongs in a hotel; a five-week recovery belongs in a house.

West Hollywood: thirty-one nights, unless the host lives there

West Hollywood does not permit unhosted rentals of fewer than thirty-one nights in its residential neighbourhoods, and enforces the rule with penalties calculated per night. Home-sharing, where the owner remains in residence, is the only short-stay exception. In practice a West Hollywood West or Norma Triangle house is an excellent recovery address for a stay of a month or more, and unavailable for anything shorter.

Villoura’s own guidance on this is unambiguous, and we say the same thing on our furnished extended stays in Los Angeles page: we place medical and recovery stays in residences for thirty nights or longer, and we will tell a family when the honest answer for a short visit is the Sofitel or the Four Seasons on Doheny.

What a recovery-appropriate residence actually needs

The brief a surgeon’s office gives a family is almost never a brief for a house, so here is ours, assembled from the stays we have managed and the things that went wrong in stays we did not.

Step-free, single-level living: the first thing we check for a recovery stay. Villa Onyx, a Villoura residence.

Stairs are the first question, before views, before pool, before anything. A primary suite on the entry level, or an elevator, is non-negotiable after orthopedic, cardiac or abdominal surgery; the hillside villas of the Bird Streets and Trousdale, with their split levels and terraced gardens, photograph beautifully and are wrong for the first month after a hip replacement. Step-free entry from the driveway, wide doorways, a walk-in shower with a bench and a bedroom door that closes on a quiet street are the second tier. A full kitchen matters more than a family expects, because post-operative and oncology diets are specific and hotel room service is not; a chef who has cooked to a nutritionist’s sheet is one of the more valuable calls our concierge team makes. A second bedroom with its own bath for the caregiver, adult child or visiting sibling turns a difficult month into a manageable one. And parking, which in Beverly Grove means a garage or driveway rather than a permit-zoned street, because the person doing the driving is doing it four times a day.

Neighbourhood by neighbourhood

Beverly Grove and the Third Street corridor

The streets between Third and Beverly, from La Cienega east to Fairfax, are the closest residential fabric to the hospital and the easiest to live in during treatment: single-storey Spanish bungalows and low-rise buildings, Erewhon and the Beverly Center within walking distance, and a taxi ride to the Pavilion measured in minutes. These are Los Angeles addresses, so a thirty-night stay is straightforward. For families who want to be able to walk to a morning appointment, this is where we look first.

West Hollywood West and the Norma Triangle

West of La Cienega and north of Beverly, the small houses of West Hollywood West and the Norma Triangle sit between Melrose’s design district and the Sunset Strip, five minutes from the hospital’s north entrance. Gardens are private, streets are quiet, and the West Hollywood Design District and the restaurants of Melrose Place are a short walk for the family member who needs an hour away. Thirty-one nights or more; see our guide to West Hollywood residences.

Hancock Park and Windsor Square

Ten minutes east along Third Street, the large 1920s houses of Hancock Park and Windsor Square offer what the Beverly Grove flats cannot: scale. A family of six travelling for a parent’s cardiac surgery, or a patient who will be in Los Angeles for a full oncology cycle with visitors rotating through, is better served by five bedrooms on a wide lot than by a two-bedroom apartment near the Pavilion. Many of these houses have primary suites on the ground floor, which is rarer in the hills.

Bel Air, Holmby Hills and Brentwood

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes west, and worth the drive for two kinds of stay: the family that wants absolute privacy during a period it does not intend to discuss, and the patient who is also being seen at UCLA Health in Westwood and needs a base between the two campuses. Villoura’s Bel Air and Los Angeles collections include gated single-level estates and houses with elevators; we filter for both before we show anything to a family on a medical brief. Our note on where executives stay for thirty-, sixty- and ninety-day assignments covers the same westside geography from a corporate angle.

Beverly Hills, for now, means a hotel

The Peninsula, the Beverly Wilshire, L’Ermitage and the Beverly Hills Hotel all appear on Cedars-Sinai’s own list, all within about two miles, and for a three- to seven-night consultation visit they are the right answer. For a month, under the current ordinance, a Beverly Hills residence is not on the table, and we would rather say so than let a family discover it at the door. Our Beverly Hills pages set out what remains possible there.

How long people actually stay, and how to book each phase

Medical travel to Cedars-Sinai tends to fall into four patterns, and each has a different right answer.

Tree-lined canyon road in Holmby Hills and Bel Air, Los Angeles
Bel Air and Holmby Hills: privacy for the family that does not intend to discuss its stay.

The consultation visit, three to five nights of appointments and imaging, is hotel territory: the Sofitel a tenth of a mile along Beverly Boulevard, the SLS on La Cienega half a mile south, or the Four Seasons on Doheny under a mile away. Villoura does not place short stays in unlicensed houses in this district, and neither should anyone else.

Surgery and recovery, typically two to six weeks including the pre-operative days, is the thirty-night residence. Book from the day before admission; a family that arrives to an empty house with a stocked kitchen and a made bed the night before surgery has one fewer thing to manage, and the residence is there, unchanged, on discharge day. Extended treatment, an oncology protocol or a transplant follow-up running two to four months, is where the flexible-term arrangement earns its keep: a sixty-day booking with a rolling thirty-day extension, so that a change in the treatment calendar does not become a housing crisis. And the family stay, where the patient is admitted and the household needs a home near the hospital rather than a room in it, follows the same thirty-night logic, often in a larger house in Hancock Park or the westside where children can keep some ordinary routine.

Corporate and insurer-arranged medical stays follow the pattern set out on our corporate housing in Los Angeles page: one invoice, a named point of contact, housekeeping and linens on a schedule, and terms that can flex by thirty-day increments.

What the concierge does, and what it does not

Villoura is a residence company, not a medical one, and the line between the two is worth drawing plainly. Cedars-Sinai’s International Patient Services and the patient’s own care team handle everything clinical: scheduling, interpreters in the consulting room, medical records, insurance letters. Our concierge team handles the household around it: airport meet-and-assist and a vehicle that can take a wheelchair, a chef briefed on the dietary sheet, daily or twice-weekly housekeeping, grocery and pharmacy runs, a driver on retainer for appointment days, a private nurse or physiotherapist introduced through licensed agencies when a family asks, and the small things, a hospital bed in a ground-floor room, a shower chair, a second refrigerator for medication, that no listing mentions and every recovery needs. The case for a residence over a five-star hotel is usually made on space; for a medical stay it is made on the kitchen and the staff.

A note for owners near the hospital

If you own a single-level house or an elevator building residence in Beverly Grove, West Hollywood, Hancock Park or the westside, medical and recovery stays are among the steadiest demand Los Angeles produces: thirty to ninety nights, low occupancy per bedroom, careful guests, and a calendar that does not depend on award season or a stadium schedule. It is also demand that the Beverly Hills ordinance has pushed east and north into Los Angeles and West Hollywood addresses. Owners who want their home considered for this programme can start on our list your home page; our guide to choosing a luxury home management company in Los Angeles explains what to expect from us and from anyone else.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cedars-Sinai in Beverly Hills or Los Angeles?
Los Angeles. The medical center’s address is 8700 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90048, in the Beverly Grove district. West Hollywood begins one block north and Beverly Hills a few blocks west, which is why the three cities’ different rental rules all matter to a patient’s family.

Can I rent a house in Beverly Hills for a month while a family member is treated at Cedars-Sinai?
Not under the ordinance the city adopted in August 2025, which prohibits residential rentals of less than one year. That ordinance is being challenged in federal court as of September 2026, but it is in force. For a month or a season, look to the Los Angeles and West Hollywood neighbourhoods around the hospital.

What is the minimum stay for a furnished residence near Cedars-Sinai?
Thirty nights in the City of Los Angeles neighbourhoods (Beverly Grove, Hancock Park, Bel Air, Brentwood) and thirty-one nights in West Hollywood, for an unhosted residence. Shorter visits are best placed in the hotels on the hospital’s own list, several of which are within half a mile.

How far are the westside neighbourhoods from the hospital?
Beverly Grove and West Hollywood are five minutes or a short walk; Hancock Park about ten minutes east; Century City ten to fifteen minutes west; Bel Air, Holmby Hills and Brentwood fifteen to twenty-five minutes depending on traffic. The Wilshire/La Cienega station of Metro’s D Line, open since May 2026, is roughly a mile south of the campus.

Can the residence be set up for someone recovering from surgery?
Yes. We select for entry-level primary suites or elevators, step-free access and walk-in showers, and the concierge team can arrange a hospital bed, shower chair, a chef briefed on a dietary plan, a driver for appointment days and introductions to licensed private-nursing agencies. Villoura does not provide medical care; Cedars-Sinai’s care team and its International Patient Services do.

Do you work with insurers, employers and international patient offices?
Yes. Corporate and insurer-arranged stays are invoiced to a single account with a named contact, and terms can be extended in thirty-day increments so that a change in the treatment schedule does not require a move.
