Awards season in Los Angeles runs seventeen weeks, from the Governors Awards on November 15, 2026 to the 99th Academy Awards on March 14, 2027, and the right place to stay depends on which night matters to you. The Golden Globes (January 10) belong to Beverly Hills, the Grammys (February 7) to Downtown, the Oscars to Hollywood. The private-residence neighborhoods that reach all three are Bel Air, Holmby Hills, the Hollywood Hills and West Hollywood.
That is the short answer. The longer one matters because the season is a four-month residency for campaigners, a three-week one for international nominees and a three-night one for guests of a single ceremony, and each of those stays is governed by different rules about which homes can lawfully host it. This guide sets out the confirmed 2027 calendar, where each event happens, and how to choose between a hotel suite and a house.
The 2027 awards calendar, confirmed dates only
Every date below has been announced by the organization that owns it. Where a venue has not been confirmed for 2027, we say so rather than assume last year’s.

| Sun, Jan 10 | 84th Golden Globes | The Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills |
| Thu, Jan 21 | Oscar nominations announced | , |
| Sat, Jan 30 | 79th DGA Awards | The Beverly Hilton |

| Sun, Mar 14 | 99th Academy Awards | Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood |
A few details in that list change how the season is planned. The Critics Choice Awards have moved to January 3, the earliest date in their history, which pulls the start of the January rush into New Year’s week. The Grammys leave CBS after half a century and will be carried for the first time on ABC, Disney+ and Hulu, according to the Recording Academy. The Golden Globes remain on CBS and Paramount+ with Nikki Glaser hosting, and the Academy has confirmed Conan O’Brien for a third turn at the Oscars. The Spirit Awards, long staged in a tent on Santa Monica beach, are at the Hollywood Palladium.
Three ceremonies, three different cities within the city
Awards season is less one red carpet than three separate districts, and a stay that is ideal for one can be a long drive from another.

Beverly Hills and the Golden Globes
The Globes have been held at The Beverly Hilton since 1961, and the hotel is the closest thing the season has to a clubhouse: the Directors Guild Awards are there on January 30, and in 2026 it also hosted the Oscar Nominees Luncheon and Clive Davis’s pre-Grammy gala. On Globes night the after-parties stay close: at the Hilton itself, at Spago, and up on Sunset at the Sunset Tower and Chateau Marmont, as Elle Decor reported from the 2026 ceremony. The BAFTA Tea Party, traditionally the day before, takes place at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on Doheny Drive. For a Globes weekend, then, the map is small: Beverly Hills, the Sunset Strip, and the residential streets of Holmby Hills and Bel Air immediately to the west.
Hollywood and the Oscars
The Dolby Theatre sits at Hollywood and Highland, inside the complex now called Ovation Hollywood. The Governors Awards open the season in the ballroom upstairs, and the Spirit Awards are under a mile east at the Palladium on Sunset. The Hollywood Hills rise directly behind the theatre, which makes them the shortest drive to the Oscars of any residential neighborhood in the city, though on the day itself the approach is governed by road closures rather than distance. The parties scatter again afterwards. Vanity Fair moved its Oscar party in 2026 from Beverly Hills to the new David Geffen Galleries at LACMA on Wilshire, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s viewing party has its home in West Hollywood Park.
Downtown and the Grammys
Crypto.com Arena and the Peacock Theater face each other across L.A. Live, at the southern end of Downtown. The surrounding events, however, have not left the Westside. Clive Davis’s gala was at The Beverly Hilton in 2026; its 2027 date and venue had not been announced as this guide went to press. Most Grammy guests still sleep west of La Cienega and are driven Downtown.
Where the industry has always slept
The hotel map of awards season is remarkably stable. In a 2012 report on what it called the hotel wars, The Hollywood Reporter counted 23 Golden Globe nominees and 43 SAG nominees at the Four Seasons on Doheny in a single season, and named the same houses that still anchor the calendar: The Beverly Hills Hotel, Hotel Bel-Air, The Peninsula, the Beverly Wilshire, Sunset Tower, Chateau Marmont and the Sunset Marquis. The paper noted that Oscar-weekend rates ran roughly fifty percent above normal.

The pattern holds. Chanel and Charles Finch gave their seventeenth pre-Oscar dinner at the Polo Lounge of The Beverly Hills Hotel in March 2026, as the Associated Press reported. If your purpose is to be seen in the lobby, to take meetings in the bar and to walk to a junket, a hotel is the correct answer and no house will improve on it. For a companion view of how the two compare on service and value, our guide to private residences versus five-star hotels in Los Angeles goes through the arithmetic.
Why a private residence, and for whom
The case for a house is strongest at the two ends of the season’s range. At the long end are the people for whom awards season is a job: producers, publicists, campaign strategists and international filmmakers who need to be in Los Angeles from the Governors Awards to final Oscar voting, which closes on March 4. Seventeen weeks in a hotel is a long time to live without a kitchen, a desk or a door that closes on the rest of the team. The Los Angeles Times, in a September 2025 report on the city’s luxury rental market, described studios renting private estates through the fall and spring red-carpet months to house nominated talent.
Planning a luxury California stay?
Skip the guesswork. Villoura specialists match you to the right villa and handle every detail, a real person replies in minutes.

At the short end are the three-to-ten-night guests: a nominee’s family arriving for Oscar week, a label’s guests for the Grammys, a brand hosting a dinner. For them a residence solves practical problems: a private driveway rather than a porte-cochère, space for a stylist and a rail of clothes without surrendering the bedroom, one roof for two or three generations, and a dining room that seats a dinner without negotiating a private room.
The middle ground, a couple in town for one ceremony who want to be in the thick of it, is usually better served by a hotel, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
The neighborhoods that reach every stage
No single address is close to the Beverly Hilton, the Dolby and Crypto.com Arena at once. Four neighborhoods come nearest to a workable compromise, and each suits a different kind of season.

Bel Air and Holmby Hills
Bel Air and Holmby Hills are the natural base for a Globes-centered stay and for anyone whose calendar is weighted towards Beverly Hills and Century City. The streets are gated or simply quiet, the lots are deep, and the houses are large enough to absorb a team. Villoura’s current Bel Air residences include the Bel Air Road Estate, the Bellagio Road Estate and the Roscomare Residence. The trade-off is the Oscars: Hollywood is a cross-town drive, and on closure days it should be planned with a driver who knows the routes.
The Hollywood Hills
For Oscar week the Hollywood Hills have no rival. The canyons above Hollywood Boulevard and the Sunset Strip put the Dolby, the Palladium and West Hollywood within a few minutes. Roads are narrow and parking is scarce, which matters if you intend to entertain.
West Hollywood
West Hollywood sits between the two worlds, with Sunset Tower, Chateau Marmont and the Elton John party all inside its 1.9 square miles. It is also the most tightly regulated of the four for short stays, as the next section explains.
Brentwood and Santa Monica
Brentwood and Santa Monica are the quiet choice, and a logical one for the first week of January, when the Critics Choice Awards are at Barker Hangar, and again at the end of February, when Frieze Los Angeles (February 25 to 28) returns to Santa Monica Airport and the Genesis Invitational (February 18 to 21) is played at Riviera.
The rule that decides which house you can book
Los Angeles is not one jurisdiction, and the three cities that host awards season have three different laws on renting a home.

In the City of Los Angeles, which includes Bel Air, Holmby Hills, the Hollywood Hills and Brentwood, the Home-Sharing Ordinance permits stays of under 30 nights only in a host’s registered primary residence, capped at 120 nights a year unless the host holds an extended registration. A home that is not someone’s primary residence is let for 30 nights or more. A proposal to license a limited number of second homes for short stays (Council File 25-0029-S1) was referred to two council committees on September 8, 2026 and had not been adopted when this guide was written.
In West Hollywood, a stay of under 31 days requires a city home-sharing licence and the owner must live in the home for the duration, which rules out the unhosted villa weekend entirely.
In Beverly Hills, an ordinance adopted in August 2025 requires residential rentals to run for at least one year. A group of owners, the Beverly Hills Vacation Rental Alliance, filed a federal challenge on August 31, 2026, as the Beverly Press reported; no hearing date had been set at the time of writing. For awards season, Beverly Hills is a city of hotels.
In practice this produces two routes. A stay of 30 nights or more, which covers the campaign season and anyone combining the Grammys with the Oscars, has the widest choice of homes. A stay of three to ten nights is placed in a hotel or in a residence whose registration allows it. Villoura’s specialists will tell you plainly which homes can host a stay of your length, and it is the reason some guests book a full month for a ten-day need.
Oscar week on the ground: closures and the Metro
The Academy publishes its street-closure schedule about two weeks before the show, so nothing is confirmed for 2027. The 2026 schedule is the best available precedent. Hollywood Boulevard between Orange Drive and Highland Avenue closed at 12:01 a.m. on the Thursday ten days before the ceremony and did not reopen until the Wednesday after it, and the Metro B Line bypassed the Hollywood/Highland station from the last train on Saturday until Monday morning, with riders directed to Hollywood/Vine.

If 2027 follows the same pattern, the closure would begin around Thursday, March 4. Anyone staying in the hills above the theatre should expect canyon routes to carry diverted traffic, allow generous extra time, and arrange a car through the Villoura concierge rather than rely on a ride-hailing pickup inside the perimeter.
February, the month that stacks
February 2027 is the densest month Los Angeles has seen in years. MusiCares honors U2 on the 5th, the Grammys follow on the 7th, Super Bowl LXI is at SoFi Stadium on the 14th, the Oscar Nominees Luncheon is on the 16th, the Genesis Invitational runs from the 18th to the 21st, Frieze opens on the 25th, and the Producers Guild and Actor Awards close the month on the 27th and 28th. Final Oscar voting runs from February 25 to March 4.
The consequence for housing is simple: the best homes for the Grammys are the same homes wanted for the Super Bowl a week later, and a single 30-night lease from late January covers both.
What it costs, and when to commit
There is no published index of awards-season house prices, and we will not invent one. The nearest public benchmark comes from the Los Angeles Times, which reported in September 2025 that luxury villa brokers in the city were quoting from about $1,900 a night for smaller homes to $150,000 a month and more for large estates. Awards weeks sit at the upper end of any home’s range.
The economics behind the demand are better documented. A report commissioned by the Academy put the Oscars’ effect on Los Angeles County at $134 million for the 2024 ceremony, a figure reported by the Los Angeles Times and ABC7. As for timing, the Golden Globe nominations arrive on December 7 and the Oscar nominations on January 21; homes booked after those mornings are booked by people who have just learned they need one. Those planning a full season commit in the autumn. October is not early.
For owners: seventeen weeks, three peaks
For the owner of a home in Bel Air, the Hollywood Hills or Brentwood, awards season is the most reliable letting window between Thanksgiving and spring, and in 2027 it overlaps with a Super Bowl. Because most such homes are not their owner’s primary residence, the lawful product is a lease of 30 nights or longer, which happens to be exactly what a campaign team or a nominee’s household wants. A house furnished to a hotel standard, with secure parking, a working office and a chef’s kitchen, will let on those terms without any change in the law. Our guide to rental revenue during major Los Angeles events explains the pricing, and owners who would like a view on their own property can speak to Villoura about listing a home.
Frequently asked questions
When is awards season in Los Angeles in 2027?
It opens with the Governors Awards on November 15, 2026 and closes with the 99th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 14, 2027. In between come the Critics Choice Awards (January 3), the Golden Globes (January 10), the Grammys (February 7), the Actor Awards (February 28) and the Spirit Awards (March 6).
Where is the best area to stay for the Oscars?
The Hollywood Hills are the closest residential neighborhood to the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland, with West Hollywood a few minutes further west. Guests who prefer a hotel traditionally choose Beverly Hills or the Sunset Strip and are driven to Hollywood.
Where do Golden Globes guests stay?
The ceremony is at The Beverly Hilton, and guests cluster in the hotels of Beverly Hills and the Sunset Strip. For a private residence, Bel Air and Holmby Hills are the nearest neighborhoods, because Beverly Hills itself requires residential rentals to run for at least one year.
Can I rent a house in Los Angeles for a few nights during awards season?
Only in certain homes. In the City of Los Angeles, stays of under 30 nights are permitted in a host’s registered primary residence, up to 120 nights a year; other homes are let for 30 nights or more. West Hollywood requires the owner to be present for stays under 31 days. Villoura will confirm which residences can host your dates.
How early should I book a house for the Grammys or the Oscars?
As early as your plans allow. Golden Globe nominations are announced on December 7, 2026 and Oscar nominations on January 21, 2027, and demand rises after each. February 2027 also contains Super Bowl LXI, so the best homes are commonly taken on one lease covering the month.
Is a villa or a hotel better for awards season?
A hotel suits a couple attending one ceremony who want to be at the center of the social traffic. A private residence suits stays of several weeks, families, anyone who needs privacy and working space, and hosts planning a dinner at home.
Plan your season with Villoura
Villoura arranges private residences across Los Angeles for stays of a few nights, a month or the full season, with chauffeurs, private chefs, security and household staff organized through our concierge.
